In addition to the projects DTA pursues through its own initiatives, Defend Them All provides professional Advocacy Services for mission-aligned projects related to animals and their habitats.

We work with advocates and organizations that need substantive writing, editing, analysis, communications, research, or strategy building to advance a defined advocacy objective. Our work draws on DTA’s experience in animal and environmental law and policy, scientific and technical research, community advocacy, and public-interest communications.

Our services always include direct collaboration and substantive review by seasoned professionals in animal and environmental law and policy.

  • We assist with writing, editing, policy and legal research, communications, research synthesis, and strategy building for projects related to animals, wildlife, habitats, environmental protection, and closely related public-interest advocacy.

  • DTA’s advocacy initiatives are areas of work we have chosen to pursue as part of our charitable mission. We set the strategy and priorities for those initiatives and work alongside advocates, organizations, researchers, and communities to advance them. We do not charge collaborators for work undertaken as part of a DTA initiative. That work is provided without charge or funded through donations, grants, foundations, and partnerships.

    Projects that fall outside our current initiatives but align with DTA’s mission and expertise can be considered through Advocacy Services in which a fee for service is charged. If your project closely overlaps with work DTA is already pursuing, we can determine whether it is better suited to Advocacy Services or to collaboration within the existing initiative.

    Keeping initiative work separate from paid services allows DTA to make strategic decisions based on the needs of the issue rather than an organization’s ability to pay. It also allows us to involve and equip a broader range of advocates, helping build knowledge and capacity around the issues we are working to address. Because we are already deeply engaged in these areas, we can draw on existing research, relationships, and expertise to move the work forward efficiently.

  • No. If you have a defined issue or objective but are not sure what the best deliverable or approach is, we can help identify an appropriate scope during an initial conversation.

  • Yes. Not every undertaking needs to be a large research or policy project. Focused assignments, such as drafting an advocacy letter, substantively editing a report, reviewing written materials, or helping strengthen a particular communication, can be a good fit for Advocacy Services.

  • You will work directly with DTA’s seasoned attorneys with expertise in animal and environmental law and policy. We work closely with clients to understand their particular needs and the nuances of each project.

  •  DTA provides legal and policy research as part of its Advocacy Services. Legal representation and individualized legal advice are not ordinarily included and must be separately agreed to in writing.

  • Fees depend on the scope, complexity, research required, deliverables, anticipated revisions, and timeline. Before work begins, we agree on the scope, fee, and expected timeline in writing.

  • Reduced-cost work may be considered on a case by case basis, depending on the nature of the project, strategic value, available funding, and DTA’s capacity.
