Student Opportunities

DTA offers a variety of internship and externship opportunities for students passionate about defending animals and their habitats.

Internships

DTA accepts off-site/remote interns on a rolling basis throughout the year. The nature of each internship is generally based on a student’s individual interests and areas of expertise. Internships are open to undergraduate, graduate, and law students with a passion for improving the lives of animals. Interns will work with DTA to create an individualized project to complete throughout their term, however in select cases an intern may work on an existing DTA campaign.

Law students: preference will be given to students that have taken or are currently enrolled in any of the following courses: Environmental Law, Administrative Law, Animal Law, International Environmental Law, Wildlife Law, Public Lands & Resources Law, and/or related coursework.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to admin@defendthemall.org.  Please specify whether you are applying for Summer, Fall, Winter, or Spring term. Academic credit may be available based on the requirements and approval of accredited institutions.

Advocacy abroad program - Ecuador

DTA offers an annual summer field placement to explore issues affecting animals and the environment in Ecuador.  Students work directly with Ecuador-based advocates, legal professionals, and organizational partners on real-time municipal campaigns and projects. The Advocacy Abroad Program is a two-week opportunity open to law students and non-law graduate students. Academic credit can be arranged pending the approval of accredited institutions. For more information about this program please reach out to admin@defendthemall.org.
